By accessing or using CourseCat ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and contributors of CourseCat.
2. About CourseCat
CourseCat is an independent, student-created platform built by the TechPreneurs to help Portola High School students make informed course selection decisions. CourseCat is not affiliated with or endorsed by Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) or Portola High School. Course information is provided by vetted student contributors and is for informational purposes only.
3. Eligibility
CourseCat is designed for Portola High School students. By using this Service, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age. If you are under 18, you should review these terms with a parent or guardian.
4. User Accounts
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, including for submitting false, misleading, or harmful content.
5. Contributor Terms
Approved contributors may submit course reviews, unit breakdowns, and study tips. By submitting content, you agree that:
- All submitted content is based on your own honest experience in the course.
- You grant CourseCat a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your submissions on the platform.
- You will not submit false, defamatory, or intentionally misleading information.
- You will not submit content that facilitates academic dishonesty (see our Academic Integrity Policy).
- We reserve the right to edit or remove any submitted content that violates these Terms.
6. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Submit content that is false, misleading, defamatory, or harmful.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without permission.
- Share or post copyrighted test materials, exams, or answer keys.
- Facilitate academic dishonesty of any kind (see our Academic Integrity Policy).
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
CourseCat is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Course difficulty estimates, workload hours, and study tips are based on individual student experiences and may not reflect your personal experience. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information on the platform. Always consult your official school counselor and the IUSD course catalog for official course information.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the TechPreneurs team shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of CourseCat, including but not limited to course selection decisions made based on information found on this platform.
9. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Your continued use of CourseCat after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
